Here in Vizcaya at Palm-Aire, captains have long been a community tradition.  In each address within the association, one resident is designated captain by the president of the association.  This is the case in both the tower stacks and the garden buildings.  The captain is typically not a director but serves as a link between the board and the residents.

The duties of a captain include to welcome new occupants of their building and attend their orientations, to familiarize new residents with the building features, protocols, and rules, to note changes in contact information including phone or e-mail, to monitor activity in and around their area, and to insure the well-being and safety of their neighbors in the case of an emergency.
